A knot is a type of loop that is used to fasten two or more ropes together or a rope to an object. Although there are various types of knots. Here, we have listed common types of knots that have multiple applications.

Square Knot

A square knot is also known as a reef knot. It is used to secure a rope with an object or two ropes together.

Slip Knot

A slip knot can be tied with one end of a rope. It can be undone by simply pulling the working end.

Noose Knot

A noose knot is tied with one end of a rope. It forms a loop and tightens by pulling the other end of the rope.

Figure-8 Knot

A figure-8 knot is tied with one end of a rope. It forms two loops in the shape of "8". It is a type of stopper knot (stops the rope from getting out of a hole).

Bowline Knot

A bowline knot is a fixed loop knot. It can be tied with one end of a rope. Easy to tie-untie knot, forms a secure loop.

Clove Hitch Knot

A clove hitch knot is a simple form of two loops (2 half hitches) around an object. It is used to tie a rope to an object.

Pile Hitch Knot

A pile hitch knot is tied by making a "U" shape of a rope. It is used to tie the rope to a pole or an object.

Constrictor Knot

A constrictor knot is a "Figure-8" knot, around an object. It is easy to tie but difficult to untie. It is a secure knot.

Cow Hitch Knot

A cow hitch knot is tied (using a "U" shape of a rope) with a pair of half hitches. The half hitches tied in the opposite direction.

Uni Knot

A uni knot is a type of fishing knot. A uni knot is tied by making multiple loops using one end of a rope.

Whipping Knot

A whipping knot is used to secure the end parts of a rope. In the whipping knot, multiple loops of a thread are tied around the rope end.

Sheet Bend Knot

A sheet bend knot is used to tie two ropes together (using ends of two ropes). Easy to tie-untie knot.

Nail Knot

A nail knot is usually used to tie two ropes of different diameters. It consists of 6-8 wrap-around loops of one rope to another.

Carrick Bend Knot

A carrick bend knot is used to tie end parts of two ropes. It is generally used to tie heavy ropes or cables together.

Cleat Hitch Knot

A cleat hitch knot is used to tie a rope to a cleat. It is generally multiple loops of "shape-8", used for docklines.

Double Overhand Knot

It is a type of stopper knot (stops the rope from getting out of a hole). It can be tied by making a loop (using the end of a rope) and wrapping around twice inside the loop.

Cobra Knot

A cobra knot is a lanyard knot. It is easy to tie-untie. It is used to make lanyards and macrame patterns.

Halter Hitch Knot

It is used to tie a rope to an object. It is tied using an end part of a rope.

Marlinspike Hitch Knot

It is a temporary knot. Easy to tie-untie. It is used to attach a pole to a rope. It is mainly used in making a rope ladder.
