Common Types of Rope

A rope is made by twisting multiple fibers, yarn, or strands together. It is used to tie objects together. There are various types of materials used to make rope. Here, we have listed all types of rope that are used in daily life.

Common Types of Rope

Cotton Rope (रुई की रस्सी)
Jute Rope (सन की रस्सी)
Nylon Rope (नायलॉन की रस्सी)
Polyester Rope (पॉलिएस्टर की रस्सी)
Kevlar Rope (केवलार की रस्सी)
Bamboo Rope (बाँस की रस्सी)
Twisted Rope (बलदार रस्सी)

Other Types of Rope

Manila Rope (मनिला की रस्सी)
Polypropylene Rope (पोलीप्रोपलीन की रस्सी)
Single Braided Rope (एक लट वाली रस्सी)
Double Braided Rope (दो लट वाली रस्सी)
Diamond Braided Rope (हीरे जैसी लटदार रस्सी)
Hollow Rope (खोखली रस्सी)

Cotton Rope (रुई की रस्सी)

A cotton rope is made of cotton, natural fiber. It is soft and flexible.
Pros:
Good for a warm environment
Lightweight, Skin-friendly
Disposable
Cons:
Absorbs humidity, water and gets heavier
Not as strong as synthetic rope

Jute Rope (सन की रस्सी)

A jute rope is made of jute, bast fiber.
Pros:
Disposable
Incredible lightweight
Softer and better grip than cotton rope
Cons:
Slippery
Shrinks greatly
Absorbs water, humidity and gets heavier
Not as strong as synthetic rope

Nylon Rope (नायलॉन की रस्सी)

A nylon rope is made of thermoplastic (polyamides), a synthetic polymer.
Pros:
Incredible strong and durable
Easily handles the heavy loads
Smooth and doesn't create resistant
UV resistant
Cons:
Absorbs water, humidity, and weakened
Not chemical resistant
Melts in contact with fire

Polyester Rope (पॉलिएस्टर की रस्सी)

A polyester rope is made of polyester (derived from petroleum), a synthetic polymer.
Pros:
Durable, Strong
Withstand sun, water, humidity
Chemical resistant
Stretch Free
Cons:
Melts in contact with fire

Kevlar Rope (केवलार की रस्सी)

A kevlar rope is made of kevlar (strong and heat-resistant), a synthetic polymer.
Pros:
Acid resistant, heat resistant, water-resistant
Strong and Durable
Doesn't stretch
Cons:
Fuzz Behaviour
Invisible damage due to load or shock

Bamboo Rope (बाँस की रस्सी)

A bamboo rope is made of bamboo fiber, natural fiber.
Pros:
Extremely soft and skin-friendly
Long-lasting
Disposable
Lightweight
Cons:
Absorbs water, humidity and gets heavier
Not as strong as synthetic rope

Twisted Rope (बलदार रस्सी)

A twisted rope is made by twisting or coiling fibers together. It is generally used for dock lines and at home.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Easy to splice
Cons:
Stretchable
Less flexible

Manila Rope (मनिला की रस्सी)

A manila rope is made of manila hemp, fibers from Abaca leaf.
Pros:
Strong and Durable
Highly flexible
Soft, Skin-friendly
Cons:
Absorbs humidity, water, and weakened
Shrinks

Polypropylene Rope (पोलीप्रोपलीन की रस्सी)

A polypropylene rope is made of polypropylene, a thermoplastic polymer.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Lightweight
Withstand damage and mildew
Dielectric (doesn't conduct electricity)
Cons:
Stretchable

Single Braided Rope (एक लट वाली रस्सी)

A single braided rope is made by combining an even number (generally 8 or 12) of fiber strings (half in the clockwise direction, half in the anti-clockwise direction).
Pros:
Durable
Withstand heavyweight, pressure
Doesn't fray easily
Cons:
Doesn't consist of a core

Double Braided Rope (दो लट वाली रस्सी)

A double braided rope consists of two parts. One is braided core (provides strength) and the second is braided outer (provides abrasion resistance).
Pros:
Very strong and durable
Stable holds its shape
Abrasion resistant
Little Stretchability

Diamond Braided Rope (हीरे जैसी लटदार रस्सी)

A diamond braided rope consists of an inner fiber core. It is a tightly woven (fibers braided over and under each other) rope.
Pros:
Incredibly strong and durable
Withstand extreme pressure
Spliced easily
Easier to work with
Cons:
Expensive

Hollow Rope (खोखली रस्सी)

A hollow rope consists of an empty core, but the outer is braided. It is generally used for anchor lines.
Pros:
Incredibly lightweight
Easier to work with
Spliced easily
Cons:
Not as strong as braided rope
